A 3-Dimensional compositional exploration that aims to practice joinery methods. Constrained to 4 poplar boards and 90-degree cut angles, I made a maze-like structure. Inspired by the illusions of the game, Monument Valley, my sculpture is meant to provide a playful and intruiging viewing experience from all angles.

Kicking off the ideation process, I experimented with creating cutout designs in the form of each piece. I wanted to introduce back a degree of complexity to the negative and positive spaces, which I thought the original four-board constraints limited.
I started with four prototypes:
I move forward with the 3rd prototype since it was interesting to view from every single dimension. It could be placed at an angle too.
Since we passed our designs to another student to fabricate it, we made instructions of the assembly and dimensions of each piece.

Daniel’s Design, which I fabricated.
